At 88 years old, Lillian is a widow who lives on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. She was recently fitted for hearing aids and has a knee injury that keeps her in a wheelchair. She needs to wear a knee brace, but finds that even more restrictive. Now in need of cataract surgery, Lillian is barely able to visualize her surroundings. She relies on the tribe for transportation to church, and on state health services for her medical care.
Tribal staff like Aldena and Roland from the Cheyenne River Elderly Nutrition Center help care for homebound Elders like Lillian, and PWNA is fortunate to support their work. In addition to her meals, they also home-deliver her holiday stocking, ensuring healthy holidays for the homebound.
But, we need your help too! With donations made from Nov. 22 – 29, 2016, you can help us deliver not only a Christmas meal but a Christmas memory this year for hundreds of homebound Elders in need just like Lillian. And, you can double your impact because Newman’s Own Foundation will match your gift, providing up to $10,000 in matching funds!
PWNA is a BBB-accredited charity championing hope for brighter futures on 60 reservations with the highest need in the U.S.
