Pythian Youth Foundation(PFY) of CA, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and charitable foundation, established in 1946 with the purpose of serving America's youth, especially inner-city, at-risk boys and girls and fight the causes of juvenile delinquency. All our programs are developed to provide children of our communities with tools, inspiration and confidence needed make a positive change in their communities and the world.
Since 1946 over 15,000 inner-city children has attended our wilderness youth camp experience in Sequoia National Forest (In partnership with the US Forest Service). The Pythian Youth Camp (PYC) was founded by the fraternal Order of the Knights of Pythias, as an independent entity from the Knights and under the signature of President Harry S. Truman. It is the first and still only land-grant children’s camp in U.S. and its focus is to enhance the growth and development of at-risk children between 9 and 11, both at camp and in the communities where they live.
For kids who have never been in the woods, the camp experience represents a new holistic perspective of the world around them, the communion with nature, becomes a positive transformative force for the kids, and a source of life-long, cherished new friendships and memories.
Because we believe that all children have the right to explore their imaginations in the world of books and to fight illiteracy we started our ”is this book for me?” program which now has picked up and donated over 50,000 children’s books to community clinics, hospitals, libraries and children’s organizations. Our "Safety Helmet" program makes it possible for the children to both have fun and be safe at the same time, at this point 10,000 bike helmets has been handed out to children in our local communities.
We need your help to be able to continue our work and provide more children with important opportunities. Children are our world’s future and we need to do everything in our power to give them possibilities to grow up and become tomorrow’s leader.
You can be a part of the change, Help us Help kids!
