Family and Friends,
We are at it again!!
Perhaps you remember us from 2010 as the fearless “Greece Lightning” Team in Training Marathon Team that raised a whopping $50,000 in 2010 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and completed the 2500th anniversary of the original marathon beginning in the ancient city of Marathon and culminating in a fabulous finish at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, Greece.
What an adventure it was!!!
This year we boldly will compete where no other OCIE Team in Training marathon athletes have gone before us: The country of Canada and the Province and city of Old Quebec. We plan to race on August 25, 2012, in the Quebec City Marathon and Half-Marathon.
And, with your help,
we plan to raise another $50,000 !!!!!!!!
We are acting on behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a national voluntary health organization dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improving the quality of life for patients and their families. It is estimated over 139,000 Americans will be diagnosed with a blood cancer during 2012 and more than that will lose their lives.
Now, we know many of you are thinking that we have lost our minds. And yes, it’s true, we may have. Training for this marathon in Canada will be a challenge. However, our challenge is nothing compared to the challenge that those afflicted with leukemia or any other type of cancer face on a daily basis. Please join us in this effort to find a cure for this terrible cancer by contributing to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on our fundraising website.
You can catch us race-walking (and maybe even actually running) on Saturday mornings in Dana Point along the beach or on the bluffs for the next several months. Come join us for a mile or two or ten……or at least enjoy a cup of coffee with us after our training session. It’s always the best part of the weekend. Sweat, tears and Starbucks – one mile at a time!
