BENEFITING: PIEDMONT EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 06, 2014
Queenie Law Kwan recently passed away due to natural causes on August 1, 2014 at her home in Piedmont, CA. Her sudden passing at the young age of 29 was a shock to her countless family members, friends, coworkers and classmates.
These past few weeks have been a challenging period for everyone, but the overwhelming support from across the country and around the world has been amazing and inspirational.
Queenie touched many lives with her warm spirit and ability to immediate forge a connection with anyone she met. Her friends and family consistently praised her combination of compassion mixed with good sensibility. Queenie lived her life to the fullest and always made it a point to make others feel welcomed and appreciated. She was a selfless individual.
To raise funds for the Piedmont Educational Foundation (PEF) in honor of Queenie, building a lasting legacy in her name.
Connection between Piedmont and Queenie:
Queenie grew up in Piedmont, where she attended Frank C. Havens Elementary School, Piedmont Middle School, and Piedmont High School (PHS). Piedmont’s public schools played a key role in the shaping her natural leadership skills and caring spirit. Queenie’s brother, Chris, and her two younger cousins, Samantha and Brian, also graduated from or are currently attending PHS.
Piedmont also held a special place in Queenie’s heart because the love of her life, Benjamin Pavlik, was a member of the same graduating class. Ben and Queenie began their relationship after reconnecting at their 10 year high school reunion. They fell in love and had even planned to eventually take engagement photos at PHS.
What is the Piedmont Educational Foundation (PEF)?
Founded in 1975, the mission of the Piedmont Educational Foundation is to promote academic excellence, champion innovation and provide sustained support to the Piedmont Unified School District (PUSD). The PEF is a 501(c)(3) publicly supported organization.

The PUSD played an important role in Queenie’s early education, giving her the building blocks to help her achieve her fullest potential. After high school, she attended Occidental College where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies. At the time of her passing, Queenie was pursuing her Master of Science in Organizational Development at the University of San Francisco.
Through a significant donation to the PEF, Queenie’s legacy can help the PUSD to continue providing the best education to young Piedmonters.
Time frame for fundraiser:
Queenie’s 30th birthday would have been on October 6, 2014. We would like to complete the Remembering Queenie fundraiser by October 6 with the intent of creating a “birthday present” of donations to the PEF in her name.
