BENEFITING: Queens Centers for Progress
ORGANIZER: Queens Centers for Progress
EVENT DATE: Oct 22, 2017
I came across the opportunity to run the Marine Corps Marathon with the Queens Center for Progress (QCP) and decided to sign up immediately after learning just a little bit about the organization. The QCP was founded in 1950 as United Cerebral Palsy of Queens, by a group of parents who needed services for their children with cerebral palsy. The not-for-profit organization’s first services were delivered from the basement of a wood-frame house in Queens, now affectionately referred to as the “haunted house.” At the time, it was run in consultation with local hospitals. Initially, UCP of Queens offered therapy and educational programs for children with cerebral palsy, but as the children grew, so did the services and programs, evolving into what it is today which is a wonderful organization that provides educational & theraputic services from preschool age to vocational, day and residential and support services and life-skills training services through adulthood and to seniors through 3 locations throughout Queens.
Please support QCP with a donation or join the team and me and run the MCM with us!
