Community Water Solutions is a not-for-profit social enterprise with rural communities in developing countries to establish sustainable water treatment businesses. These businesses are owned and operated by the communities that they serve and use simple, affordable technologies to enable the treatment, distribution and storage of clean, safe drinking water. The maintenance and operation of these water treatment businesses is funded by revenue from the sale of drinking water, while the capital necessary to establish them is donated by CWS.
Today, 1 in 8 people around the world lack access to safe drinking water. 4 million people die each year from preventable water-related diseases, and 90% of those deaths are children under 5. In northern Ghana, half of the 1.8 million residents lack access to improved sources of drinking water. Due largely to this lack of access to safe water, 20% of children under five in northern Ghana are sufering from diarrheal disease. In this region, traditional solutions, such as creating wells or boreholes, are infeasible (due to lack of non-saline groundwater sources), and thus, safe water organizations have focused on implementing household water-treatment and safe storage technologies. Community Water Solutions is one of these organizations.
I have been selected to work with CWS from December 27 to January 17 this upcoming year! I am very excited to give clean drinking water to people living in the villages of Northern Ghana. In order to participate, I need to raise $4000. This money will go to the capital of the project (ceramic treatment basin, capital, treatment chemicals) and the expense of getting me there to implement this project. Your support is greatly appreciated and is directly aiding the people of Ghana. Let's end world thirst together. Thank you!
