On my 25th birthday, I aim to raise $250 to purchase 25 pairs of glasses for children in impoverished communities of rural China. My partner-in-action for this cause is Education in Sight, an organization that strives to improve education for children in low-income communities through conducting eye examinations and providing free eyeglasses. Education in Sight serves various parts of China as well as some parts of the US. The glasses provided by Education in Sight result in students' heightened ability to follow and participate in class and as a result, to achieve higher in the classroom. http://www.education-in-sight.org/
As a child of immigrant parents who grew up in a low-income community in the San Fernando Valley, I have valued education as an opportunity to help my family and community. In classrooms, my family’s background did not matter; my willingness to work hard did. I was fortunate enough to have great teachers and mentors who encouraged me to use my education to make an impact in the community. I would love nothing more than giving the same opportunity to all children in underprivileged neighborhoods. I chose to raise money for eye glasses because being able to see the board is a basic need for children in school!
• Please donate! Every $10 you give equals 1 pair of glasses. Feel free to donate any amount you desire.
• Please spread the word! Tell your mom, tell your best friend, tell your co-workers! Help me reach my goal of $250 by May 14th!
