Quisiera Ayudar: Baby Blankets and Blessings for Guatemala
Organized by: Ben Munson
On Monday, July 21, 2014, Kent and Lorrie Munson arrived in Guatemala City, Guatemala. For 18 months, they'll live there and serve among some of the most humble, beautiful and desperately impoverished people in the Western Hemisphere.
Guatemala, the northernmost country in Central America, is a land of rich history and culture. In the north, the fantastic ruins of Tikal carry you back to a period of dominance and fierce battles. To the south, the towering Volcán de Agua and Volcán de Pacaya are startling reminders of the power and fury of Mother Nature. And to the west, Chichicastenango has one of the most colorful and authentic open-air marketplaces in the world. Yet, despite its beauty and unique features, Guatemala will never be considered a top 25 vacation spot or a "dream destination" for most.
However, for Kent and Lorrie, this is the fulfillment of lifelong dream for them both – to, side-by-side, dedicate themselves fully to the service and welfare of others.
This is our chance to help their dream unfold and, more importantly, to give you the chance to help them help "los Guatemaltecos."
In Lorrie's own words: "I am working on a project where we are providing packages and blankets to the maternity hospital (in Guatemala City). Most of the women travel there from all over Guatemala to have their babies, but many of them are so poor they have nothing for their babies and must take them home wrapped in newspapers. Four sister missionaries have vowed to keep every baby clothed and warm."
Since she, now, is one of those four women dedicated to this great cause, we, her children, are determined to lend a hand – with your help.
