WELCOME TO MY LIVER LIFE CHALLENGE PAGE!!!!
It has been a few years since I participated in my first 10k as a member of the Liver Life Challenge Team. (More than 5 years actually) So yes, it is intimidating getting back into running, and even more so when I realize how much I owe to this organization. But this year is doubly exciting cause not only am I helping support this great organization again, I am also running with my brother Samuel Racine!
For my family, the support and friendships we have gained from the American Liver Foundation is something we cannot forget. But we can pay back in kind- by raising awareness and funds for future research in liver diseases.
My families journey started more than thirteen years ago, had a huge change just three years ago, and it only continues today. We have seen hospital visits, major surgerys, missed events, and long nights. Anxiety driven days have bled away into what counts as normal for us, and for Pearl. For all the hard times, and the pain, the brightest spot in everything has always been Pearl's smile and strength. [to read more about how Pearl is doing today, and where her journey began, look at her caring bridge page run by our mom, at this link https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/pearlracine ]
When I last ran this race in 2010, it was seeing Pearl along the side of the road that pushed me to finish strong. I ran those last two miles like I was enjoying the too high heat and the cramps in my calfs (cause honestly, who can run their first race and say they enjoyed every minute, especially in 90 degree weather, lol.)
The Liver Life Challenge is an endurance program that helps people like me train for a race while supporting the mission of the American Liver Foundation.
The American Liver Foundation is working towards a world free of liver disease. To know that there are doctors and medical professionals working hard to find the cause of liver diseases like biliary atresia is comforting to me, If families in the future can be spared the distress and uncertainty of a child born with a debilitating disease, then my part in raising funds as a participant of the Liver Life Challenge is the least I could do.
That is why participating in the Liver Life Challenge is important to me. Every step I take and every dollar I raise will make a difference in the lives of more than 30 million Americans living with liver disease.
If you have a moment take a look at these facts below about liver disease, and thank you in advance for choosing to support such a great organization.
For this race I have set a personal fundraising goal of $750, and along with the $750 goal of my brother, Samuel Racine, we aim to raise $1500 for this great organization!
With your help, we can raise funds that will allow the American Liver Foundation to:
• provide financial support for medical research
• educate patients, families, caregivers and healthcare professionals
• create public awareness campaigns about liver wellness and disease prevention
Together we can make a difference and it's as simple as helping me reach my fundraising goal.
Thank you in advance for your support and contribution.
