When our son Liam was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder two weeks after his second birthday, he was almost totally non-verbal. He could not communicate his needs or wants appropriately. He did not initiate play with his twin sister or other peers. Liam did not respond to his name or other verbal prompts. He did not seek out affection or comfort from us at all.
Fast forward: Currently, at age 5, Liam has a full vocabulary and is able to communicate his needs and wants with ease. He initiates play with his siblings and his peers. He loves to be hugged, thrives on praise and affection, and can follow verbal prompts.
We credit his progress over the past two and a half years to Mitchell's Place. The structure of the school day, the therapies, and the integration of typically developing peers has helped Liam find his words and develop social skills.
We are confident that Mitchell's Place is giving Liam his very best chance to be fully prepared for a transition into public school by kindergarden.
