THE STORY:

As many of you last year I raced for a cause that is near and dear to my heart. I am once again racing to help those in need from natural disaster with the Race2Rebuild group. This year I am racing my whole season for those who need help and can’t seem to get it. Many of you may have known someone or in fact personally been affected by a hurricane in recent years so you totally understand the urgency to do something. Now is your chance! So far I have raced in the the US Winter Swimming National Championships and unfortunately I missed my last two events because of illness, but I will continue with my next event in a couple of weeks. I will be swimming a 5k in the Hudson River, followed up by the NYC Tri, the Casco Bay Island Swim Run in Maine, Fall Follage Half Marathon, Marine Core Marathon and who knows you may even see me elsewhere for a few more events. When something devastating happens right in your backyard you feel the need to help, which I did right afterhurrican Sandy. But now a few years later and the devastation is still present. With people still having a hard time getting their lives back on track and still trying to get the help they desperately need. So please join me in helping the many families who still need help. Race2Rebuild was created in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy to support rebuilding efforts. We fund and participate in disaster relief projects with organizations such as the national nonprofit Rebuilding Together. Following each race, athletes have the opportunity to volunteer, meet the family they support and help rebuild their home. We are athletes and volunteers resolved to rebuild communities, homes and lives through racing. Click here to learn more about us. Race2Rebuild has partnered with CrowdRise to encourage the entire community to unite and fundraise for Rebuilding Together. Whether you're an athlete committing to fundraise for the family who lost their home in Hurricane Sandy or a supporter committed to making a difference, we're all coming together here on Crowdrise to commit to the recovery process, rebuild neighborhoods and help families return home. I am resolved to dig deep, cross the finish line and turn my training, my miles and my race into a stepping stone towards a healthier community. The well-being of our communities is certainly within our reach. Thank you, Ed Gabriels
