Please help me raise funds for SEEQS Foundation in 2015! If you are a walker, runner, triathlete, swimmer, or a concerned citizen interested in raising the bar for education, please consider joining the Race for SEEQS 2015 Team. Get fit and do some good this year!
Have you ever wondered if there was a better way to educate your children? An affordable, public education that recognized children’s strengths, encouraged a growth mind set that instilled a love to learn continuously, made learning about the real world, and nurtured children into productive citizens for the modern world?
In Honolulu, Hawaii, we have such a school. The School for Examining Essential Questions of Sustainability (SEEQS) is a new secondary public charter school that opened its doors to 6th and 7th grade students in 2013 and expanded to 8th grade in 2014. The plan is to continue to add a grade each year until we reach 12th grade. Learn more about SEEQS at www.seeqs.org. Also see more about SEEQS below and watch the video about how they spend their day.
My son attends the 8th grade at SEEQS and has experienced a whole new educational world this school year! As a charter school, SEEQS needs to raise money to supplement its expenses for facilities, resources and faculty. Without help from you and me, SEEQS will have trouble expanding and providing this amazing educational experience to other kids who deserve to learn in an environment that nurtures a growth mind set and encourages them to become healthy, sustainable and productive citizens.

What is SEEQS?
SEEQS offers an interdisciplinary project-based, community-based, tuition-free secondary school experience for Oahu families. It has a unique, progressive approach to learning which is evidence-based. As a public charter school, SEEQS remains responsible for administering the Hawaii State Assessment to all students. The SEEQS curriculum will effectively prepare all students to demonstrate their academic achievement on the HSA and far beyond.
Watch this four minute video showing how students spend their time at SEEQS.
Why Help Fundraise for SEEQS?
As a public charter school, SEEQS is partially funded by the State of Hawaii. Charter schools have the same expenses as a typical public school, but don't necessarily receive the same benefits. Charter schools are funded on a 'per-pupil' allocation, in the order of $6,300 per student. By comparison, standard public schools receive closer to $10,000 per student, as well as a facility in which to house the school. Charter schools do not receive any funds from the State to assist with the start-up expenses that are necessary at the beginning of any organization, including a school. In order to provide students the best resources, facility, teachers, and leaders, SEEQS must raise additional funds to supplement the per-pupil allocation from the State.
