I am running a half-marathon (my first) to raise money for Mitchell's Place. For those who don't know, Mitchell's Place provides comprehensive services for children on the autism spectrum. To tell my story: Drake was first diagnosed with Autism at Mitchell's Place at age 3. He then attended the Teach Me program (a 1:1 therapy), and then went on be in a classroom. When he first started he was completely non-verbal and had very little interaction with others. Today, Drake is 9 and functions completely in a regular classroom with only speech services. He makes all A's, plays piano, is on the swim team, and has participated in multiple duathalons and triathalons. He Loves computers, space and weather. I feel we have come this far due to Mitchell's Place. Not only did they provide therapy for Drake, but also to me with their outpouring of support and optimism at a time when I needed that more than I can say. During my race, am going to reflect on how far we have come; and I hope to provide assistance to future families who need Mitchell's Place as much as we did.
Thank you all so much for your support!!!
