BENEFITING: THE MAYORS FUND TO ADVANCE NEW YORK CITY
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
After all the months of physical training, all the runners of the New York Marathon now face the additional challenge of running against a backdrop of destruction left in Sandy’s wake. As we were all thinking about how to support the victims of Hurricane Sandy, my sister-in-law Abby had a great suggestion.
Mary Wittenberg, chief executive of New York Road Runners has asked runners who would like to raise money on behalf of the victims of the hurricane to do so through donations to the Mayor’s Fund.
Our ideas for funding levels are:
- $180 per mile = $4,716.00
- $90 per mile = $2,358.00
- $45 per mile = $1,179.00
- $18 per mile = $471.60
- $5 per mile = $131.00
- $3.60 per mile = $94.32
- $1.80 per mile = $47.16
- $1.00 per mile = $26.2
- any other amount you want
We are also working on finding a sponsor to match gifts.
This will be my first marathon, and I can't think of a more timely and meaningful mitzvah than running in honor of the recovery effort. Will you join me in going the extra mile?
