I have always enjoyed running and working with children with physical and cognative disabilities, so what better organizaion to become a part of! This journey thus far has been amazing to say the least. The number of runners and riders I have had the pleasure to meet along the way has been so humbling. It has taught me so much about myself, by running ability, and just how much my body can do. I am due with a baby in two weeks and have continued to run through my entire pregnancy doing several 5k's. I would never have guessed I would have bothered to continue running while pregnant a year ago. This organization is what has done it for me. I know I have riders waiting for me to help them across that finish line. Not only has the running kept me in shape, but it has helped me stay focused mentally. I have the physical part down and always felt I was somewhat metally strong, but running pushing a race chair has taken that to a whole new level that I can truely appriciate and needed in my life. This journey thus far has also brought my family closer. My husband has become and runner as has our 13 year old daughter joined us in many races along the way. Our 4 year old also enjoys watching the riders and says she has "Ainsley's Angels" running shoes and clothes she must wear to races! She also feels each and every rider is "her" rider! I am very fortuate to have gotten this expereince to begin a chapter here in Illinois and can only hope to continue to spread the word of inclusion and gain many more riders, runners, and guardian angels along the way. I can't thank my parents enough for all of their continued love and support to have made me the person I am to want to go and do for others. Also, my sister Maggie for encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone and into the unknown and become an ambassador! I am always told how much I do for each and every rider, but always repond with "your child (the rider) has done way more for me that I could ever imagine doing for them." I truely believe that about this organizaion along with my job as a special education teacher. I enjoy each and every rider and long to see the smile on their face as they cross the finish line!
