BENEFITING: ALZHEIMERS DRUG DISCOVERY FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Nov 16, 2013
I just wanted to thank you for supporting my run for Alzheimer's research. The run on November 16th was a great success. I finished the 1/2 marathon in 2 hours flat through the beautiful hills of Palos Verdes, CA. Together we raised almost $13,000 and donations keep rolling in.
Beyond the amount of money raised, was the vast reach of people that donated that moved me. I was so deeply touched by the number of people that helped me honor my dad. Friends from high school, friends from college, friends of my mom and brothers, recent friends and family who never even met my dad, former customers of my dad.... the list goes on and on. I am overwhelmed with peoples generosity.
I am also overwhelmed by the number of people who shared stories similar to what my family has experienced over the last few years. A number of friends also have parents suffering from Alzheimer's disease. These are people being diagnosed in their 50s and 60s. It reinforces how much needs to be done to battle this disease. All of your donations will go 100% towards this research.
Thank you so very much and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
As many of you know my father, Jon Franzblau, is in the late stages of Alzheimer's Disease. He was diagnosed with early onset at just 53 years of age. As the disease has progressed and taken my father away from us, it has impacted his life and those around him in more ways than I could have ever imagined.
Alzheimer's is a progressive, fatal disease of the brain. There are currently no drugs available that prevent or even slow its course. Currently, Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the US. It is the only cause of death among the top 10 in America without a way to prevent it, cure it or even slow its progression.
We need to collectively raise the awareness around Alzheimer’s and the impact it is having on our country and our families. We need to do more to work towards a cure. The Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation (ADDF) provides funding to the most innovative Alzheimer’s drug research worldwide. 100% of your donation goes directly to Alzheimer’s drug research and related programs.
On November 16th I will be running the Palos Verdes half marathon in honor of my dad. My father is living his final days at home with around the clock care and I miss him with my whole heart every single day. The work of ADDF is too late to help him, but I feel compelled to raise money for this important cause and hopefully prevent others from feeling the devastating impact of this disease. My dad was always my hero and still is. Please support me as I try to honor him in this way.
Thank you so much in advance for your support.
