It's hard for me to imagine sometimes that a girl with that joyful a smile and zest for life has spent more time in the hospital in her 2 1/2 precious years than you or I will in a lifetime. When I grow up, I want to have this little girl's tenacious spirit and unstoppable grin!
Our family was blessed with Ellie Hope in February 2010 -- smack dab in the middle of Snowpocalypse! With blizzard winds swirling and snow piled thigh-high my dad and I climbed into the truck and set off to welcome my cousin Alissa and Ryan's first baby. We were excited to meet little Ellie and afraid this might be our only chance.
Ellie is a miracle. Born with a rare kidney defect, she spent half her day attached to a dialysis machine for the first two years of her life. Then, in the winter of 2012, just days before her 2nd birthday, Ellie received a life changing gift. A kidney transplant from a selfless donor brought Ellie her first chance at life as a laughing, loving, lively toddler.
You see on the left, little Ellie has wasted no time making strides to catch up for months lost! Running and jumping and chasing her little brother - these are a few of Ellie's favorite things!
As a transplant recipient, everyday with Ellie is truly a gift. That's why I'm running this October!!! and asking for YOUR help!!!
HERE'S THE DEALEO:
October 13th I'll be running 13.1 miles thru Baltimore to raise money for the Children's Organ Transplant Association in honor of Ellie Hope. COTA helps families like Ellie's enjoy their precious time together by providing financial support to put a dent in the thousands in medical bills they're left with after insurance.
All money raised goes directly to COTA in honor of Ellie Hope to help pay the medical costs associated with her kidney transplant!!
Sponsoring the miles I run breaks down like this:
1/mile ~ $13
2/mile ~ 25
4/mile ~ 50
8/mile ~ 100*
*One day I promise I'll be super intense and run a full 100-miler . . . until I get that crazy though, multiplication is my fundraising friend ;o)
ANYTHING you can give HELPS COTA and the lovely Ellie!! Thank you!
P.S. Did you get the reference to my favorite musical above??!! If so, email me for a prize just because - you're awesome :)
P.S.S. Inspired by Ellie (like me) and want to read more? Check out the blog about Ellie's journey my cousin Alissa wrote http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/elliehopegreen
