After becoming a first time mom on November 22, 2015 to Everett Michael, I am honored to be running the Philadelphia Marathon on November 19th and supporting the Team Every Mother Counts. Having Everett was the most life changing moment in my life and I am thankful everyday for him. With my husband overseas with the US Army during the last few months of my pregnancy and the first five months of Everett's life, I really came to appreciate what a mom is more than I would have otherwise. Women are strong and when they work together they are unstoppable. Every Mother Counts is a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother. It was launched in 2010 to heighten awareness about global maternal health crisis. While advocacy remains a key focus, Every Mother Counts has evolved into a 501(c)(3) investing in programs around the world to ensure all women have access to quality maternal healthcare. I have been following and donating to Every Mother Counts since I discovered them. Long nights up breastfeeding in the middle of the night leads you to find a lot of strong mommy's out there. This was my best discovery. Helping other women is something that is close to my heart. Every Mother Counts spreads such a positive message and provides support to women who need it most. Having a baby is such a scary time for many and providing them the opportunity to appropriate prenatal care, access to a healthcare provider during labor and good postnatal care is what this organization is all about. Running the Philadelphia Marathon is my way of getting back in the running saddle. It will also show Everett what a strong, dedicated and positive influence exercise, health and wellness have on life. Like we say here at Fort Drum, "Climb to Glory" or in this case, "Climb to Philly"!!
