On June 4th, 2017 we will be participating together in the Comrades Marathon in South Africa, running uphill for 54.68 miles. The Comrades Marathon is the world's largest and oldest ultramarathon race, and also a very tough race. The incline going uphill, the warm temperatures and the cut off time of 12 hours make the race a big challange.
We are running this race to bring awerness and to raise funds for advances in research to end Alzheimer's and dementia while enhancing care for those living with the disease. Both of us very closely experienced the devastating effects of Alzheimer's and dementia Rachel's mom and dad, and Giulia's grandmother all were afflicted with dementia and or Alzheimer's. The Alzheimer's Assoication was the first place Rachel turned to once she found out that her mom's forgetfulness was a cause for concerns. They offered to her family and other friends of hers going through a similar situation a comforting support.
In our training for Comrades, we will be running one marathon a month starting in Miami (FL) in January running the Miami ING; A1A in Fort Lauderdale (FL) in February; Napa Valley Marathon (CA) in March, Savin Rock Marathon in West Haven (CT) and our first ultamarathon in April (TBD).
Our goal is to raise a dollar for every mile we will run during the Comrades. Please help us supporting the Alzheimer's Assoicationin, for every step, every mile that we run so that our effort can help many people and their famlilies affected by Alzheimer's and/or dementia.
