Last year, I ran the 2013 Boston Marathon... about 5 miles from where I was running, a series of homemade bombs were set off, killing 3 and maiming many.
All the runners were stopped around mile 25... we just stood there... not knowing what to do... sirens screaming all around...
Luckily for me, my cousin was able to send text messages to me to get me to walk away from the marathon to get to him and his car and we were able to get to his house, where I was staying.
I experienced just a small piece of PTSD from those events on 4/15/13.... and it has made me even more determined to raise money for Soldier's Best Friend, an organization who helps vets with PTSD and other trauma related issued by pairing them with dogs from shelters and trains the dogs (and vets) to be service dogs... but they say it so much better than I do... Their mission:
To provide United States military veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) with a trained Service or Therapeutic Companion Dog, most of these dogs of which will be rescued from local shelters.
This is accomplished by pairing the veteran with a rescued dog who then train together until graduation.
To help our war heroes improve in their symptoms of PTSD, adjust back into civilian life, lead a more productive life and help them build self esteem. We also want to help the pet overpopulation problem by helping place shelter or rescue dogs into good homes.
Won't you please consider giving? Thanks
