My TEAM TRUIMPH's (the Wisconsin Chapter's) Mission is to enrich the health and well-being of individuals with disabilities by fostering lasting, authentic relationships through the teamwork environment of endurance athletics.
The organization was inspired by the famous father/son racing team of Rick & Dick Hoyt. Rick was born a quadriplegic & after much urging from his son (Rick), Dick Hoyt agreed to push Rick in their first race: a 5k. That 5k lead to many, many more races, and eventually lead to a full Ironman competition in Kona. They have now completed nearly 1,100 races together (including 25 Boston Marathons & 6 Ironman triathlons)! Team Hoyt continues to inspire & encourage across the world and spread their contagious motto of "Yes, You Can"!
I would like to continue to spread Team Hoyt's message of "Yes you can" and Rick's message that "you can do anything you want as long as you set your mind to it" and race for the benefit of others. This September I will be racing in the 2013 Ironman WI competition to utilize the physical abilities that God has blessed me with to provide individuals with disabilities with that INCREDIBLE opportunity of racing!
You may be asking yourself: How does racing really benefit individuals with disabilities? To answer that I will leave you with the following 2 quotes:
1. "When I'm running, I feel like my disability disappears!" -Rick Hoyt
2. "Racing has enhanced the quality of my life in many ways." -Rick Hoyt
Both Team Hoyt & My TEAM TRIUMPH exemplify the meaning of love, dedication & perseverance & I pray that in some small way my race also exemplifies those characteristics. THANK YOU for your SUPPORT!!!
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." -John 15:12
