Racing for Prostate Cancer Awareness
Organized by: Karen Schwartz
Do you know what color ribbon represents Prostate Cancer?
It is light blue and our goal is bring awareness to Prostate Cancer and to have all recognize the light blue ribbon as such. We have dedicated our racing season in Pirelli World Challange to bring the message of Prostate Cancer Awareness: Early Detection + Education = BEST OUTCOME.
My racing season has been dedicated to bringing awareness to Prostate Cancer. It has been rewarding to be able to couple this with my success on the track. I know we have only just begun our journey to make a difference for this cause. I write today asking for your assistance.
Our final three races are being held at Laguna Seca September 11-14, the weekend prior to National Prostate Cancer Awareness week, making it a great time to implement two additional campaigns for the cause:
- Blue Ribbon Campaign: Prostate Cancer is recognized by a light blue ribbon. Few people know this, and we plan to change this during our Laguna Seca race weekend.
- We have 70+ race cars across all World Challenge classes committed to placing a blue ribbon decal we provide on both sides of their car for the weekend. These blue ribbons will be on Porsches, Lamborghinis, Audis, and much more. This will give Prostate Cancer Awareness screen time during the live streaming of seven races as well as the two one-hour broadcasts on CBS Sports in the week following the races – in other words, over 500,000 viewers will see and hear about this cause.
- Every $50 we raise will be represented by a blue ribbon decal on my race car – so if we meet our goal of $10,000, I will have more than 200 blue ribbons on the car.
- Survivors/Warriors Race Outing: We will have 10 VIPs at the track that weekend for a fun day and an opportunity to network and share their stories. These VIPs are men who have been touched by Prostate Cancer. This will be our platform for a program we hope to implement at each race next season.
One hundred percent of the money we raise goes toward our racing expenses for the three races, the blue ribbon campaign, and the Survivors/Warriors Race Outing. We only have 10 days to raise this money. Our goal of $10,000 does not cover all the expenses; however it is a great help toward our efforts to make a difference. We are in the running to win the championship, which increases our exposure and our opportunity to make a very, very large impact for Prostate Cancer Awareness.
We are accepting individual and corporate donations – again, each $50 raised will be represented by a blue ribbon on my car.
For example, a $400 donation will put eight blue ribbons on my race car, a $1,000 donation will put 20 blue ribbons on my race car, etc. Corporate donors will also be represented on the car in addition to the blue ribbons based on their donation.
