BENEFITING: Mental Health America
EVENT DATE: Jul 23, 2015
I’m cycling across Iowa in this year’s 500-mile RAGBRAI ride (July 19 – 25) and am dedicating each day in support of an important charitable organization. I’ll use the ride as an opportunity to raise funds and help create awareness for these organizations and the causes they support.
Mental Health America (MHA) is among the organizations I’ll be supporting during RAGBRAI. Day 5 (July 23, Cedar Falls to Hiawatha) will be in support of MHA and their important work. Mental Health America is the nation’s leading community-based non-profit dedicated to helping all Americans achieve wellness by living mentally healthier lives. Their work is driven by a commitment to promote mental health as a critical part of overall wellness, including prevention services for all, early identification and intervention for those at risk, and integrated care and treatment for those who need it, with recovery as the goal. Much of MHA's current work is guided by the Before Stage 4 (#B4Stage4) philosophy – that mental health conditions should be treated long before they reach the most critical points in the disease process.
This day is also dedicated in memory of my cousin, Charlie Kositzke, who took his own life earlier this year. Charlie was 26.
If you'd like to join me in supporting Mental Health America in memory of Charlie, please donate here! Thanks!
