BENEFITING: MYTEAM TRIUMPH
ORGANIZER: MYTEAM TRIUMPH
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page for Ainsley's Angels! If you will give me about 5 minutes of your day, I promise you won't regret it.
I've been thinking a lot about what to put in this box. I've thought a lot about Ainsley's Angels and what it means to me to be fundraising as a participant in Ragnar Relay. A friend of mine who does marketing advised me to make it personal and tell a story. Here's what I can come up with.
As a runner, I admit I am more of a participation ribbon kind of girl. I am not fleet footed. I am not fast. I have to fight for every ounce of athleticism I may or may not possess on a good day. At a race, you would not notice me. I am ordinary. Deep down in my guts, I think I will always be a dancer but since I stopped dancing and teaching full time 6 years ago, I have found running to be a worthy replacement. It is my "me" time. I enjoy the process of training for a race and then meeting a goal. In short, I have seen and been privy to the power of movement and activity throughout my life. It is therapeutic. This is where the importance of Ainsley's Angels comes in to play.
Ainsley's Angels exists so that anyone can experience an endurance event and to build awareness about America's special needs community through inclusion in all aspects of life, by promoting awareness, providing education, and participating as active members in local communities. Ainsley's Angels chapters represent athletic ride-along programs created for children, teens, adults, and veterans who would not be able to experience endurance events such as triathlons or road races on their own. This is a volunteer-based service that provides jogger chairs, bike trailers, and rafts for anyone who is disABLED (Known as Captains) and able-bodied runners (Known as Angels) to participate in endurance events as a TEAM!
I remember the first time I saw Ainsley's Angels at a local race. On this particular race day, Ainsley's sister, Briley, was pushing her through the race course. I watched the sisters cross the finish line and to be completely transparent, I had to fight back the tears. It was impressive. To push another human being through an entire race so they can experience the thrill of the run....that's big. To see a team of sisters made it that much sweeter. Of course when I was given the chance to be a part of the Ragnar team, I didn't think twice.
Now, this is where I need your help.
Every donation on my page will be funneled back into Ainsley's Angels. Your donation will allow Captains to participate in events, such as road races and triathlons, and will provide them with the means for equipment, travel, and race entry fees to do so. My goal is small, $300, and I hope to exceed it. I have never done any fundraising for a run. Every race I have ever done has been for completely selfish reasons. This one means something more to me and I hope to make it count. I do not believe we will be pushing Captains in Ragnar, due to the nature and length of the course, but I know every step will be in honor of the good your donations will do for Ainsley's Angels.
So skip a latte. Skip one dinner out. Any amount is helpful. If you are looking for other ways to spread awareness for Ainsley's Angels, I would highly recommend the following:
1. Go to www.ainsleysangels.org to purchase the children’s book, Born an Angel, written by Ainsley’s sister. Give it as a gift, keep it for your family, or donate it to a local elementary school library! Proceeds go to the Ainsley's Angels Foundation.
2. Follow on Instagram and Twitter: @ainsleys_angels and be sure to #AR13.
3. Visit and share the website: www.ainsleysangels.org
If you're curious about Ragnar, you can find information about the race at www.ragnarrelay.com.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR SUPPORT! My husband is also participating as a member of the Ainsley's Angels Ragnar team and we have a friendly competition going between us....help me beat him to $300 and then help me REALLY rub it in by exceeding that amount!
Love to all,
