Bring Colors, Creativity, and Smiles to New Delhi Slums
Organized by: Jordan Jones
We are ARPAN (www.arpanorganization.org). We have several on going projects working with children in the New Delhi area. This project, Rainbow Town is being carried out in the Sarastwati slum in South Delhi. The idea is to get children in the slums involved in creative projects such as storytelling, painting, and theater. These activities are conducted by a diverse range of dedicated volunteers from businessmen and women, college students, artists, etc.. While facilitating the projects the volunteers also serve as role models to the children; teaching them about the importance of education, hygiene & sanitation, responsible gender roles, and other issues that might not get the attention they deserve in their daily life growing up in the slums. At the end of the 3 month project children will have the opportunity to paint the walls of the slum buildings, giving color and positive energy that the whole slum community can enjoy.
It is an ongoing campaign where we actively engage with each community over a period of 3 months and will go on till each slum is painted in its unique style by its own children. Over time we will have a collection art work all over the slums of New Delhi and a whole bunch of children who are motivated through Art.
