BENEFITING: SHANTI VILLAGE
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page!
By making a contribution today you are helping "Raise the Roof" at the Shanti School in Sarjuganj, Nepal. We hope to have half of the funds necessary to complete the second level of the school by April, the beginning of the academic year for the Shanti School. These are high hopes, but we are confident we can do it with your help!
On a bus in Nepal in 1999, an American traveler met a teacher named Sabita, who had been working at a not-for-profit school for the less advantaged. Sabita told the traveler of the difficult lives that children, especially girls, face in rural Nepal. She also shared with her a dream of opening a school for all disadvantaged Nepalese children, boys and girls. This fateful meeting led to the formation of Shanti Village, whose purpose was to help Sabita establish, build, and support the Shanti School in her home village of Sarjuganj, Nepal.
Construction began in 2003 and the Shanti School opened its doors in April 2004. Currently, the school serves 250 children and offers classes in the subjects of Nepalese, English, Hygiene, Social Studies, Math, Science, Art, Computers, and Conversation. Shanti Village is happy to have helped the school come this far, but our hope is to raise enough funds to finish the building's second story, which still lacks windows and electricity.
Shanti Village is a group of driven and inspired volunteers, so 100% of the money it receives from your donation will go directly to this building fund.
Many thanks to our supporters -- past, present and future. Please spread the word, and spread the Shanti!
