BENEFITING: Crisscross Funding
Hello! I'm raising funds for the charity that changed my life. My story is rather long-winded, but for your sake I'm going to keep it short. I had always seen causes and charities as "A good thing to do" but never something I saw myself doing. When I was 16, my mom passed away due to a heart attack. I was devastated. I suffered depression and had a lot of anger that I didn't know how to deal with. A year later, I visited my sister who was working with CrissCrossFunding. She asked me if I wanted to come work with them. I spent a few months with them on one of their projects in Europe, where they counselled young people who had drug problems. Receiving counselling myself and being able to, in turn, counsel other young people who had the same issues that I did, was a life-saver. As I worked with them more and more, I realized that counselling was my passion and all I wanted to do was learn how to counsel someone in the way that I had been counselled. I have been volunteering with them now almost full-time for the past few years. Last year I was able to go with a team of volunteers to Nepal to counsel earthquake trauma victims, and we also partnered with other charities, building liveable structures, going on a search and rescue mission, and distributing tents. If I had known about CrowdRise, I may have stayed even longer. It's my mother's birthday on the 22nd of September and while I won't be ending this appeal at that date, I want it to be in her honour. CrissCrossFunding is dedicated to empowering a team of dedicated volunteers, myself included, to travel freely to disaster zones, and has ongoing projects in Africa, and youth programs in the States and Europe. We wouldn't be able to do what we are doing without your help and support. And I'm so thankful for those of you who want to get involved. Please help me reach this goal, so when the next disaster strikes, we have a buffer that allows us to reach that area immediately. Thank you so much!
