Help Us Open our New Cafe!
November 20, 2018
BENEFITING: 1951 COFFEE COMPANY
1951 needs your help to "Raise the Bar" on community involvment in the refugee resettlement process. Every dollar donated to us goes to empowering refugees to be the authors of their own growth and progress in this country. Money donated to this campaign directly supports our Barista Training Program - offered for free - and to help open new cafe locations that sustianbly provide incredible jobs to refugees living in our community.
As 2019 quickly approaches, we are proud to share our work to date and those plans ahead.
- Through our two coffee shops in Berkeley, 1951 provides self-sustained employment and health/medical benefits for 20 people at any one time who came through the refugee program, as an asylee, or via a special immigrant visa.
- 1951 is opening 2 new cafe locations in 2019! One is still under wraps, but one we can share. We are thrilled to be opening a coffee kiosk at the Downtown Berkeley BART Plaza January 2019. Both new cafes will provide 10 brand new jobs for refugees.
- 1951 also offers a free 2-week job training program. Each year we graduate 75 baristas, with 80% finding living wage, dignified jobs with our employment partners throughout the Bay Area.
It takes a community to make successful refugee resettlement possible. Thank you for being a part of our community!
