Raising Luna's Pace
Organized by: Meghan Witham
Update: August 8th, 2014 -- Luna's donations were happily sent to the Coastal Humane Society for their Paws for a Cause fundraiser. Thank you all, I am forever grateful for your support and love. May many fur babies live long and healthy lives!
On Monday, June 9th at around 2:30pm sweet Luna was released from her suffering body. Her heart condition worsened to a point where the heart surgeon no longer felt that a pacemaker surgery was the cure all to restore her health. At that moment, staring into her sick and tired eyes I knew I had to make the impossible decision to let her go.
We spent the last few hours of her life sitting beneath a shady tree by the ocean. She was surrounded by some of her favorite people and dogs and while she couldn't express much, I knew it was her idea of a perfect day. On the way to the vet I wrapped my prayer beads around her neck and she sat so brave and strong, like she knew this was her time. She will be missed beyond what words could ever say.
In her memory, I am keeping this fundraiser open for another few weeks to continue to raise money to help other dogs who could be sick or suffering in any way. These donations will cover Luna's heart care with the amazing heart specialist in Maine, Dr. Cloutier. This man and his technicians were so kind to her and to me and I will be forever grateful for their love and care for Luna. The remaining sum is going to help other dogs who may be suffering and are in need of care or a home.
Thank you to my local community and to all of those who have made their donations to this point. I know there was so much prayer and support for Luna but she had other plans beyond our Earth.
