History of Raising Raiders:

Raising Raiders was founded in 2012 by four Marine Special Operations (MARSOC) spouses, when there was an identified need for inner community support. This need arose when a Celebration of Life memorial required funding, combined with legal issues regarding the Command’s inability to request funds from nonprofit organizations. Thus, the four MARSOC spouses put together the 1st Annual Always Beside You Run, donating all funds raised, $3,000 in total, to support the Celebration of Life ceremony to honor the lives of 8 fallen MARSOC men who were killed in a Green on Blue attack.

By providing a grassroots fundraising capability today, Raising Raiders represents a calculated effort for the sentiments behind these small moments to provide unity in efforts to have greater impact.  Raising Raiders Board is comprised solely of spouses with service members currently serving or who have served at MARSOC, allowing concerted and purposeful fundraising by, and for, those directly associated with the unit.

Soon after the run, Raising Raiders came to fruition! Over the last two years, Raising Raiders’ mission has shifted from aiding benevolence to empowering and strengthening the families of the Marine Special Operations Command. Due to the operational tempo of the Marines and Sailors at MARSOC, the families often are left to carry a heavy load. What makes this unit different from other conventional infantry units is the high rotation from deployments to work-ups, and fitting in needed schools and training during the “home” time. Raising Raiders’ goal is to lighten the load on the families, remaining committed to stay in touch with the needs of the MARSOC community.

Using a variety of programming, Raising Raiders is truly making a difference to these unique special operations families. For the women who founded Raising Raiders, it seemed natural to turn to the legacy of the Marine Raiders for their inspiration.  Like the Raiders, the families of MARSOC will continue to push the fight. They too, like the Raiders, stand beside each other, come what may, and never give up.  And they send a clear message to all--when the chips are down, when you are in need, at MARSOC you have only to look to the left or the right of you, and you will find your community there.

Our mission is to support, encourage, and develop the personal and professional resiliency of MARSOC families, while strengthening, developing, and defining a sense of culture and unity within the MARSOC community.

We are resolute, we are hopeful. We are Always Faithful, we are Always Forward. Most importantly, we remain Always Beside You.

We hope that we can count on you to help support our cause. If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please feel free to contact us.
