Campaign to build training center for women’s cooperative in rural Rwanda.
Comprised of 66 members, the Ingabo Ikingira Ubukene cooperative is in the Bugesera district of Rwanda. Africa Development Promise supports them through programs that make the cooperatives more professional, well governed and profitable businesses, through improved access to finance, capacity building, and opportunities to scale up activities and expand market access.
The women are busy building bricks for a new training center, which will also function as a retail store for their goods as well as a community center for various events.
The cooperative has self-identified this need as instrumental in building capacity. Having a building that is easily accessible is critical. As rural women farmers, the ladies of the cooperative do not all have access to constant or reliable transportation. By building this property in their village, and not in a city, they will be able to strengthen their skills and create a space where income is generated from and for their community.
Marie Rose Ntakirutimana, president of the cooperative explains, “Our members are determined to make this work but the growth has been slow because we need education to strengthen the cooperative so we can support our members wisely. “
The cooperative is contributing the bricks and the labor, but they need your help. To afford the cement, windows, doors, and roof we have set a goal of $20,000.
We invite you to join our campaign. Your donation makes economic independence a reality for the women of the Ingabo Ikingira Ubukene cooperative!
