BENEFITING: RALLY FOUNDATION.ORG
EVENT DATE: May 10, 2014
Hi! My name is Karen Callanan and I live in Santa Barbara, CA with my husband and three kids ages 6.5, 4, & 15 months. I wanted to run a half marathon this year, it has been 6 years since I last ran a half, and couldn't settle on which one to run. When I decided on the Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon over Mother's Day weekend, it was already sold out! The good news was that I could still run the race if I registered to run with the charity, Rally Foundation, which empowers volunteers across the country to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research to find better treatments with fewer long-term side effects and, ultimately, cures.
I realized quickly what a blessing it was to be able to run in support of these kids! There are so many children and families affected with cancer, it is overwhelming. And when you read the stories about the "Rally Kids" they are not complaining about all the treatments and surgeries they have to endure, they are so positive and smiling!
Abe's smile is what drew me to him (also, his sweet blue eyes and bald head reminds me of my Grace!), and I am running this race for him. http://rallyfoundation.org/rally-kids-cancer-charity/our-inspiration/meet-the-rally-kids/abe
Please join me in supporting Abe and all kids who suffer from cancer, and for the memory of all those children who lost the battle.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart! - Karen
