BENEFITING: RALLY FOUNDATION.ORG
EVENT DATE: May 10, 2014
I am so excited to be running my first half marathon on May 10 at the Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon. I am even more blessed to be running and fundraising in honor of one of my dearest friends, Caelyn. Caelyn is a Ewing's sarcoma survivor and is an inspiration to me every day!
It's hard to believe I met Caelyn seven years ago during our first year at UGA when her hair was just growing back in from treatment. I thought she was super trendy with her edgy mohawk. Though she is super trendy, I learned that she had just beaten cancer! We quickly became best friends and lived together for years before I got married this past year. I absolutely couldn't imagine my life without her friendship.
I don't want to bore you with facts, but did you know:
- Cancer is the No. 1 disease killer of kids in America.
- Kids get different kinds of cancers than adults so different research is required.
- Less than 4% of federal funding for cancer research goes to childhood cancer research.
- Two-thirds of kids with cancer will experience late effects from the treatment.
Since college, I have been blessed to work at the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research (Rally) and help raise funds for childhood cancer research so that treatments with fewer long-term side effects and eventually a cure for childhood cancer will be found.
When you donate, you can be confident that your donation is making a difference. Rally operates at 92% efficiency and has received the Independent Charities Seal of Excellence for meeting the highest standards of public accountability, program effectiveness and cost effectiveness.
I am definitely not a runner, but when I think about everything that Caelyn and all of the other Rally Kids that are fighting cancer go through.... running 13.1 miles is nothing!
Please help me reach my fundriasing goal and support childhood cancer research. Thank you and Rally On!
