THE STORY:

UPDATE

To our wonderful Sand Lake friends and contributors:

We did it!

Thanks to your generous contributions, Sand Lake is now permanently protected as a future Oregon State Park. What a success! This is a tremendous win not only for this unique and ecologically critical stretch of coastal open space, but also for the generations of visitors who will now be able to access and experience the wild beauty of Sand Lake.

This project exemplifies what we here at Ecotrust get so fired up about – harnessing the collective power of communities and capital to make a real, tangible difference right here in our own backyard. We aim to show the world that our ecosystems, economies, and communities can – and in fact must – thrive together, not apart. And with your help, we are getting there.

Thank you for sharing in our vision, and for the key role you played in securing this land today, for tomorrow. Your gifts had a direct impact on the success of this project, and we are so grateful for your support.

"Ocean in view! O! the joy."

- William Clark's journal entry upon seeing the Oregon Coast

This is an incredible opportunity for an enduring legacy - help us protect one of Oregon's last intact estuaries. O, the joy indeed!

Ecotrust has secured an agreement to acquire this beautiful and ecologically important property otherwise threatened with development.

The parcel's 357 acres offer a little bit of everything: estuary, tidal mudlfat, open dune, shorepine forest and wetland, seasonal swamps, intertidal marsh, two miles of beachfront, several pioneering communities of rare native dune plants, and some of the best eelgrass beds in the State.

Sand Lake is also home to a variety of charismatic critters - providing important habitat for salmon, Aleutian goose, dunlin, rufous hummingbird, willow flycatcher, great blue heron, bald eagle, peregrine falcon, black bear, and elk. How cool is that?!

The property is a high priority acquisition target for Oregon State Parks, and there is strong local support. Regardless, Ecotrust will ensure the conveyance of the property into permanent conservation ownership, accessible by the public. We simply need {your} help making this possible!

Donate $10,000 and get your very own Sand Lake cookout picnic for 6, complete with round trip transportation from Portland and hosted by Ecotrust's Adventure Capital team!

Also, Donate any amount from 5/21 at 9am ET to 6/30 at 11:59pm ET and you'll be automatically entered for a chance to Win a $50 Moosejaw Gift Card.
