Rampvan for Tamandra and Justice
Organized by: Patti Richards
I am quite an independent minded gal, ever embracing challenge- one reason I drove a non adapted vehicle for so long. I really loved having a Honda Element, the dream car of dog people, right? However, after many years of hoisting myself and my chair, has worn down my shoulders. Recently, a narrow escape from a car nearly mowing my dog and I down resulted in going splat on the asphalt. It's harder than ever on my arms to get in and out of my car.
Photography is my passion...
As a freelance photographer, affording an accessible van is light years out of reach. Over the past few years, the difficulty with my car has impacted my taking volunteer jobs photographing rescue pets. I'm a member of HeartsSpeak, an organization of artists that help shelter pets with art. A huge focus of my work is on people impacted by cancer, wether a cherished pet, or loved one. There's so much I want to do with my work!
Dog is my Co-Pilot
As you can see, I have an amazing, talented young German Shepherd that I've been training for the past few years. I love the joy and smiles it brings when people see him pushing me! I have a dream, to do a big road trip across the country, and photograph people with disabilities with a special dog in their life, and their relationship. While also creating videos of Justice pushing me in various spots we visit!
An accessible vehicle would be absolutely life changing. It's awkward for me to ask for help, and it seems like an insurmountable goal, the price of these vans... But if enough people chipped in a little, we can accomplish a lot! My plan would be to find a gently pre-owned Toyota Sienna rampvan with lower mileage. New ones are upwards of $60K, and hold value well. Hoping to find a used one for around $45-50K.
