Currently, I mentor a student in the Bronx through the iMentor program. We write each other weekly emails and I get so catch up with her once a month in person at school. I have committed to mentoring this student for four years. While we just got to know each other this fall, I am excited to be a part of her journey through high school, college, and beyond. Between volunteer screening, events, and keeping the lights on, our cost remains $1,000 per pair, which powers 120 staff members to support 3,500 students. 3,500 students in New York city have mentors that are committed to them and their success. Even better? When iMentor partners with a school, all students- not just a select group - receive mentors. All students deserve to have positive role models aside from their parents and teachers. All students benefit from forming strong relationships with a mentor. We serve as sounding boards and help them reach their goals both inside and outside of the classroom. Your commitment and generosity allows thousands of NYC high-school students to participate in the iMentor program and then go on to become first-generation college graduates. Currently, 12% of low-income students in the US will graduate from college. More than 80% of students that iMentor serves are low-income. Through mentors, iMentor seeks to develop the mindsets and skills within students that it takes to be successful in college and the workforce.
