THE STORY:

Our 1st Annual 2014 Random Acts of Kindness Campaign is still underway. This is a fundraiser to build and maintain our nonprofit's capacity to provide programs and services to low-income children, youth and families in Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC.

The Random Acts of Kindness Campaign is one response to recruit children and youth in need of supervision into structured activities (developed using youth development practices and approaches) and related field trips under our Youth Quest: 21st Century Training Program, an intervention and prevention project designed in part, to counter the growing interest by youth in the infamous 'Knock-Out' Game, a violent, unprovoked assault on innocent victims (of all ages) which is spreading across the nation.

Through your generous donation, you support our capacity to create and maintain a presence in urban communities in crisis. We encourage every visitor to participate by donating cash and high-end, personal item(s) (to be sold in our pending on-line store-which can feature up to 25 items). Next, use your Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter accounts to send information about our fundraiser (see website www.thestepupfoudation.org) to friends and colleagues.

See links below for more information about the "Knock-Out' Game (warning the videos are graphic and disturbing):

Overall, we are a long-standing, grassroots foundation established to provide self-help education and training using comprehensive, evidence-based risk reduction strategies (LifeSkills Training curriculum) and educational (Etiquette, Parenting)workshops to positively intervene in the lives of the youth and families we serve to prevent senseless acts of violence and replace idle time with structured activities, leadership skills and workforce development programs to counter this and other disturbing trends in truant youth. Our outreach and education programs guide young people towards positive outcomes.

Our mission is “To improve the quality of life and the standard of living for children, youth and families.” The S.T.E.P.U.P.® Foundation’s ongoing work consists of education, outreach, mentoring, monitoring and technical assistance. We rely on donations to keep our doors open.

Funding will support our ability to maintain a reliable presence in underserved communities. We are expanding and require a facility that includes utilities) with a large studio (for Arts Education and training workshops), a conference room and five individual offices for staff (consisting of college and university students) to work and interact with program participants in a safe office environment. We will acquire one (used) handicap accessible van to transport clients to and from field trips for children, youth and families willing to better themselves. They will have the opportunity to attend free self-help programs and services from Academic Enrichment, Academy of Etiquette, Arts Education (Cheerleading, Dance and Sports Camps), Civic Responsibility, Communication Skills, Computer Literacy, Driver's Education, Environmental Education, Entrepreneurship, Gang Intervention/Prevention, Health & Wellness, Home Economics (Co-Ed), Leadership Training, Mobile Mentors: On-Call, Open Forum: Youth Speakout, Parenting Education and the GreenTech Property Solutions workforce development training which offers three options: 1) Building/Landscape Cleaning Services training, 2) Green Jobs Training and 3) Entrepreneurship/Literacy training. Wrap around services include case-management and follow-up, job training and follow-up with a focus on personal and social skills which strengthens social bonds and aids in the development of caring relationships—within the community, family and workplace.

Funds raised will also be used for general operating support, hiring a grant-writer, purchasing curriculum, hiring a Trainer, providing meals, maintaining auto and liability insurance, performing minor rehab and furnishing two vacant units (1-Bedroom and 2-Bedroom) to offer housing to two homeless families being referred through the Catholic Charities community housing program in Baltimore, MD as an example.

We appreciate your interest in funding our programs and services during this economic downturn. Thank you.
