BENEFITING: OASIS CENTER INC
EVENT DATE: Aug 15, 2015
From Randy Woodward:
On August 15th, 2015, I will compete in the Leadville Trail 100 MTB, a 100 mile race/endurance mountain biking event in Leadville, CO, for the Oasis Bike Workshop!
Adding to the challenge, Leadville, CO claims the highest altitude of any US town, at about 10,200 ft. The race will start in downtown Leadville at 10,200 ft., climb to 12,500 ft., and back down. And yes, I’m doing this on purpose!
The general history of this race is that it was created to promote Leadville, CO as a sportsman’s destination and to raise money for this small community and its various charities. Race organizers now allow participants to raise money for any charity they choose. I will be racing/participating/surviving this race for The Oasis Center, a youth-serving organization in Nashville. www.oasiscenter.org
As you can see from their webpage, Oasis is far more than just a “charity”. They strive to change the lives of these young kids as they prepare for adulthood, helping them discover and develop the “tools” necessary to be successful in life.
One of their programs, the Oasis Bike Workshop, trains kids on a “craft”, bike riding and repair, which, of course, fits well into my efforts for this cause. You can read all about the incredible Bike Workshop at www.oasiscenter.org/#programs
I’d like to ask for your support. Once the race rolls around, I’ll report back to everyone on how much I raised, and how well I survived.
