This #GivingTuesday, we hope you consider the Rape Crisis Center and all we do to advocate and educate in Dane County and beyond. Your gifts and grants are what make our work possible. Without you, there would be no Rape Crisis Center. Thank you!
Rape Crisis Center advocates are available 24 hours a day, year-round, to accompany victims to the hospital, police station, or courtroom. Our crisis line is staffed at all times, answering over 2,000 calls every year, and Rape Crisis Center counselors provided free specialized individual and group counseling to over 300 men, women, and teens last year alone.
Our Advocates provided approximately 450 accompaniments to victims at the emergency room, police station & courtroom, which averages to more than one a day. A single accompaniment costs $160. If it's bilingual, that cost goes to $175.
We strive to provide educational outreach throughout Dane County – especially to middle school and high school students – designed to help reduce and even eliminate sexual violence. We presented to more than 4500 people in 2014. One full day at a school costs us $275. Recently, our Education Director went to East High School and spoke to every single sophomore health class, reaching approximately 280 students. Doing the math - for every $1 you donate, we each one more student.
We do such important work, and we are incredibly grateful that you understand that. It’s because of you that we can continue to provide hope, help, and healing to the people who reach out to us. Thank you.
