BENEFITING: OPERATION UNISSON INC
EVENT DATE: Jun 01, 2013
Global educational development is my passion. Over the last few years, I've been fortunate enough to travel to Haiti, Honduras, and Rwanda, where I've worked with Boston University students and alumni to foster sustainable change through public health, medical, and education projects. Throughout it all, I've received both financial and in-kind support from friends, family, and my institution, which has made all of these trips possible.
It's been two years since my first visit to Haiti, which came on the anniversary of the devastating 2010 earthquake. During my week there in support of a medical mission, I was overwhelmed by the widespread destruction that was still evident, even a year later. While much of the rubble has since been cleared away, what remains are major challenges in public health and education.
I'm excited to announce that I'll be going back this June to work with the good folks at Operation Unisson who are developing a summer program for kids. Located in Blanchard, a small community just outside of Port au Prince, Camp Renmen Haiti will engaged kids aged 6-13 in health promotion and education. Upon completion of the program, the children will serve as ambassadors of health for their community.
As you can imagine, trips like this can be costly, especially when you're working with a great organization like Operation Unisson where 100% of donations go to direct services. Your support will make it possible for me to join them on this trip, where I can make a positive impact on some truly amazing kids.
Thanks, in advance, for any support you can provide!
