Your Dollars Made Serious Impact Last Year!
May 29, 2017

To our generous donors,    It has been a year since you stepped forward to support our CrowdRise campaign to raise funds for the Free To Be See More

THE STORY:

RAW Beauty Talks is excited to launch our new media literacy and positive body image program, Free to Be.  We have been working closely with body image researcher, Renae Regehr over the last two years to develop and test the program in the Lower Mainland.  With proven results and impact, we are ready to roll it out into more classrooms this fall but we need your help.

Free To Be empowers boys and girls to reach their full potential by developing media literacy, cultivating individual strengths, building resilience to social pressures that impact body image, and nurturing a positive social environment.  The program reaches youth at their most vulnerable age and has now had a proven positive impact on over 300 students.

Our goal is to raise a minimum of $10,000, which will allow us to send 1,000 grade 6 to 8 students through the program in 2016.  Funds raised will;

- Hire and train program facilitators

- Print student activity workbooks and teaching manuals

- Collect and analyze data for continual program improvements

Why Is Free to Be Important?

Youth ages 8-18 years old spend 7.5 hours every day consuming media: watching TV, visiting social media sites, perusing the Internet, playing video games and listening to music. Media influences our attitudes and beliefs about what we can and cannot, or should and should not, aspire to be in life.  The unrealistic depictions we see in media are the norm in our Western culture and we are being negatively affected mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually because of them. Approx. 50% of boys and girls age 6 – 12 years old are dissatisfied with their bodies and we are seeing increases in the number of young adults struggling with depression, anxiety, eating disorders and other related health concerns.

Please help us reach our goal to raise $10,000 by making a donation today.  Thank you for your support!
