Dearest Family and Friends,

On May 13, 2015, the former Lord Mayor of Westminster, Duncan Sandys, invited the Royse City Mighty Bulldog Band to march in the 2017 New Year's Day Parade in London, England. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for most of the high school kids from this small, rural town about 30 miles outside of Dallas, Texas. To cover the expenses of 200 high school band students for this six-day trip to England, we will need to fundraise around $600,000 in less than 18 months.

A Friendly Touch of Texas

Royse City is Small-Town America (think The Andy Griffith Show of the 1960's), where most everyone knows each other and the town celebrities are the students attending the local high school. With a population of less than 10,000 people, Royse City is a quiet, middle-income, farming community located off Interstate Highway 30 in Rockwall County between Dallas and Greenville. The Royse City Independent School District is reflective of this demographic and not only has met all academic performance standards, but excelled in a third of them as prescribed by the Texas Education Agency, despite the agency counting 38.8% of the student population as economically disadvantaged.

Royse City High School Mighty Bulldog Band

The Performing Arts Program of Royse City High School has grown tremendously in just this past school year with the high school band especially almost tripling in size. The benefit of this growth was realized for the very first time in having a deep talent pool from last year's freshman class where the band was awarded superior ratings, Division I, at various invitational marching competitions in the local area and ultimately, in marching and concert competitions held by the state's University Interscholastic League (UIL). Over 30 outstanding performances by individual band members were also recognized by the UIL for successfully auditioning to be selected to a UIL region, area or state band, or awarded a medal at the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Needless to say, the Lord Mayor deemed the Royse City High School Mighty Bulldog Band worthy of an invitation to march in his parade as a fitting reward for their hard work and expected continued success.

Royse City High School Band Boosters

As with most, if not all, successful high school band programs, additional funding outside taxpayer dollars is necessary to pay for all the anticipated costs associated with performing and competing. The Royse City High School Band Boosters, for which I am proudly serving as President, has done an excellent job in the past of fundraising and conservatively budgeting within our means to finance the band's typical obligations to perform and compete. However unlike our more affluent and suburban neighbors to the north and west, the estimated cost of $3,000 per student for this trip would adversely impact significantly more low- and middle-income households, especially those headed by single parents. With that said, you can look forward to more fundraisers and requests for corporate sponsorships in addition to this site, so we ask that you donate generously whenever you can.

Thank you for your support!!!
