With the number of children in Russia being born into alarmingly precarious familial and social situations steadily rising, the Russian Children’s Welfare Society strives to help these orphaned and neglected youngsters by directly channeling all of its yearly aid to orphanages, homeless shelters, educational scholarships, pediatric hospitals, and rehabilitation centers. We now need your help more than ever.
The Russian Children’s Welfare Society was founded in 1926 and, during the past 85 years, has undergone a number of permutations, which were incited by the many political and societal shifts of the 20th Century. Originally, the Charity exclusively helped children who were victims of World War I and the Russian Revolution. Eventually Europe, followed by South America, became self-sufficient and the Charity refocused its efforts on helping children in Russia after the fall of the Soviet State. For the past decade, the Society has conveyed all of its aid solely to Russia seeing as the number of social orphans has doubled over the course of the last 10 years.
Not only has the number of social orphans in Russia doubled in that time period, but the number of children in Russian has decreased by 4 million. There are now a staggering number of 700,000 orphans and 2.5 million homeless children living in Russia, with the number of orphaned children increasing at a rate of 113,000 per year.
Help a youngster escape a fate marked by cruelty and isolation. There is no better gift than the gift of hope and knowing that someone is thinking of you when there is no one and nothing to lean on.
