I consider myself the luckiest of parents. I am Brittany's mom. Brittany is a happy, slightly stubborn, plays her music too loud, hangs out in her tree house, wears clothes that I did not pick out, boy crazy, soccer playing, movie watching, senior in high school. Brittany also works part time at restaurant and has completed two classes at our local Jr College. This is what anyone would expect of their teenage daughter. Brittany has Down Syndrome. Every achievement is celebrated in our family, from the first time she picked up her head, the first step, her first soccer goal, her first date, prom....she has had to work twice as hard and has earned every success. Down Syndrome is one of the leading clinical causes of cognitive delay. I am running in the 2012 NYC Marathon for Team RDS. RDS supports scientific studies directed towards understanding the sources of cognitive difficulties in persons with Down syndrome. RDS believes in the promise of a future where therapies will be available that will help improve memory, learning and communication in persons with Down syndrome. This will lead to increased life opportunities in education, employment, social interactions....perhaps a future where persons with Down syndrome might be able to live independently. This is my dream for Brittany and all of her friends. Every mile I run is dedicated to her courage. Please DONATE!!!! and help this dream become a reality.
