Re-uniting Sammi.....the story of a boy and his dog
Organized by: Dax Kiger
Sammi was hit by a car on the week of April 21st. His family had no other choice but to release Sammi to ACCT in Philly since he was unable to walk and they could not afford to pay his medical treatment. Tiny Paws Rescue was asked by the Life Saving Department to please consider taking Sammi under their care, he only had a few hours before being humanely euthanized due to his injuries. They found Sammi to be a adorable and very sweet 2 year old boy who really needed their help and they took him into their rescue! ACCT in Philly covered X-ray costs so they had him rushed to the SPCA to find out what Sammi needed. Their Assistant Director kept him medicated and comfortable overnight and with X-rays in hand Sammi was taken to their vet Saturday morning! They were told that Sammis hip was displaced and the hip joint had to me removed. Although this would be a long recovery process (up to a year) Sammi would make a full recovery and live a long happy normal life. Sammi had his surgery on Saturday afternoon and did very well!
Tiny Paws decided to contact Sammi's family and see if they would want to take him back for his recovery. Acct Philly contacted the family for Tiny Paws and that is when they found out that Sammi is the families beloved dog that was able to bring their autistic non verbal son out of his shell. Mom Stephanie shared with them that Sammi is her sons very best friend, the center of his universe and that they are inseparable! She told them that her son has been crying for days missing Sammi and that she didn't have the heart to tell him that Sammi wasn't coming home again. They gave Stephanie the update on Sammi's condition and surgery as well as his recovery needs and long term prognosis. They also told her that they would really like to return Sammi back to his family and have him recover in his own home where he can get all the love and care he needs to thrive! Tears of joy all around!!
Tiny Paws rescue is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization and runs entirely on donations. They are in need of donations to help them cover Sami's vet bills and also to keep helping many more dogs in need like Sammi!!
Sammi is being released from the hospital today and will be returning to his family today. This will be aired on ABC News tonight 4/26 at 6PM and 10-11PM news
