BENEFITING: Reach, Inc.
REACH in Roanoke, a community and volunteer engagement nonprofit serving Southeast Roanoke, purchased an abandoned home located at 709 Stewart Ave. SE for $9,500 at the City of Roanoke Tax Sale held on November 16.
REACH intends to sell a fully rehabilitated house at a fair price to a low-income family, and then to use the profits to finance the purchase and renovation of second home, and so on for a third house and beyond.
REACH’s intermediate goal involves using this house as a service learning environment for groups of volunteers from within and outside of Roanoke. REACH has several college alternative break groups that will work on the house during March, and summer youth mission groups scheduled to work during parts of June, July, and August.
The campaign to rehabilitate this house is “REACH 709” (#REACH709), and those interested in donating should contact Tim Dayton, REACH’s Executive Director, at email@example.com.
