Read 2 Lead
Organized by: Read 2 Lead Foundation
My name is Samantha Boateng and I am a sixteen year-old senior in high school. Last summer, my mother went to Ghana with the mission of teaching children and young adults the art of public speaking. When she was there, she realized one significant resource that was lacking in the community, a free, public, active library. This is a problem not only in the rural village areas, but in the cities as well, even the capital city. As an avid reader, it bewilders me that children my age have never stepped foot into a library nor do they know what one is. Books are so important to all people, young and old, to strengthen our minds and expand our intellects to be the engineers, politicians, teachers, and doctors of society. I want to help these children by starting an initiative called Read 2 Lead. Read 2 Lead is an organization that was created to bread the next generation of leaders through reading. It is based on three objectives which are: to encourage the love of reading through literacy programs, to create libraries worldwide through monetary and book donations, and to improve international literacy rates exponentially. So far I have collected over 14,000 books. We believe that reading is fundamental and the world’s next leaders are readers. For my 16th birthday, I decided to begin this organization and all of your help will change so many lives forever. Thank you!
