READ FOR THE WIN! 2016 SUMMER READING PROGRAM
HOW YOU CAN HELP
$10 – Sponsor one participant in Read for the Win! providing individual attention, activities, prizes and a free book.
$25 –Storytime @ the Main Library – Activities for babies and their caregivers help build early literacy readiness. Help underwrite one of these sessions for our youngest readers.
$50- Sponsor MakerKids for K-5 – Incorporating activities along with reading helps build interest and curiosity about a range of subjects, which is particularly effective with reluctant readers and kids reading below grade level.
$100- Sponsor Teen Programs – Teens who do not read at grade level are more likely to drop out of high school. Underwrite programs that engage this hard to reach population like Tinker Teens, “Outside the Lines” Book Club for Teens, Teen DIY.
$150 – EVERYBODY READS Special Book Collections- We’ll provide Evanston Parks & Recreation and Ridgeville Camps with a unique collection of books that kids can enjoy all summer long. These specially selected books will feature characters and life experiences that reflect all of Evanston. Daily reading will be integrated into the camp experience to help grow our community of readers.
$200 – Sponsor MakerKids in the Park – The show goes on the road to Mason Park, Fleetwood- Jourdain and James Park bringing activities to the community.

Why Summer Reading Matters
- Students who read recreationally out-perform those who do not.
- Reading just 5 books over the summer can prevent the summer slide.
- By the end of 6th grade, children who consistently lose reading skills over the summer will be two years behind their classmates.
We can build successful citizens, one engaging book at a time.
