THE STORY:

EVANSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY FRIENDS wrote -

Did you know that half of the achievement gap between kids in Evanston can be explained by unequal access to summer learning opportunities? Reading 20 minutes a day helps kids stay on track in all academic areas.

This summer, Evanston Public Library Friends, the Evanston Public Library and Evanston Cradle to Career are working together to build a strong community of readers.

READ FOR THE WIN! 2016 SUMMER READING PROGRAM AT THE EVANSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY - HOW YOU CAN HELP

$10 – ONE READER AT A TIME - sponsor one participant in Read for the Win! providing individual attention, activities, prizes and a free book.

$50 –Storytime @ the Main – Activities for babies and their caregiver helps build early literacy readiness. Help underwrite one of these sessions for our youngest readers.

$100- Sponsor MakerKids for K-5 – Incorporating activities helps kids at this critical reading stage helps build confidence, skill and inquisitiveness by under writing a session

$125- Sponsor Teen Programs – Teens who do not read at grade level are more likely to drop out of high school. Underwrite programs that engage this hard to reach population like Tinker Teens, “Outside the Lines” Book Club for Teens, Teen DIY.

$150 – EVERYONE READS - special selection of books featuring African American, Latino, LGBT, disabled characters for Evanston camps. Support also provides special training for camp counselors so they can build 20 minutes of reading a day into the camp experience.

$200 – Sponsor MakerKids in the Park – The show goes on the road to Mason Park, Fleetwood- Jourdain and James Park bringing activities to the community.

“More than any other public institution, including the schools, the public library contributed to the intellectual growth of children during the summer.”
