Homeless kids need school supplies too!
Our son Callum loves school supply shopping. We remember loving it too: picking out brightly colored notebooks, a backpack, new markers and crayons. Every year as parents we think: wow – that adds up! But it’s not an insurmountable expense for us, and we dutifully shop for the necessities. Our kid heads off on the first day feeling proud, excited to use his new supplies, and ready to learn.
The average back-to-school shopping trip, in fact, costs about $100. For homeless families, that IS an insurmountable expense. For parents going through the trauma of homelessness with their children, who ALSO want to help their kids feel proud and excited and ready to learn, this is a particularly challenging time.
Will you join our family in supporting homeless families who need school supplies? Whatever you can contribute will be used for school supplies for families who ‘shop’ in the free store at Wellspring Family Services. Last year, 2,554 homeless children and their families in King County shopped for items like this. Financial contributions can be made here; we will also gladly accept new school supplies. Contact us for pick-up options. (see Wellspring's school supply wish list)
Thank you for helping ALL children be ready to learn!
